What is Cala Major Beach Like?

Cala Major is a blue flag status beach within a few kilometres of Palma de Mallorca, the capital. The beach is a stretch of white, fine-grained sand, sheltered from the wind by a set of rocks on either side. The beach is split into two sections by a small pier and is ideal for sunbathing.

Sun loungers and parasols are available, and the turquoise blue sea is clean and inviting, making it a great location for bathing. Ramps facilitate access for wheelchairs, and public showers and toilet facilities are available. Please leave your pets at home though – they won’t be allowed on the beach.

Location

Cala Major is a beach resort on Mallorca’s southwest coast. The retro high-rises overlooking the Cala Major sea-front may not appeal to some visitors, but the beach remains a popular holiday destination.

Several historical sites are close by, including the Cathedral of La Seu in Palma and the ancient Castillo de Bellver fortress.

If you’re driving, there’s a car park on the road behind the beach. It’s not free, but your car will be secure. You might battle to find a free parking space near the beach during summer.
