What is S’Amarador Like?

This beach won the “best beach in Europe” award out of 3000 European beaches! The water is clear and turquoise, like many pictures you would see in a travel magazine, and is bigger than the other Mallorca cove beaches. It has a quaint charm and relaxed atmosphere, with rocky cliffs creating a lovely frame from each side.

S’Amarador is 145 metres in length with fine white sand, a breath-taking coastline and shallow water. You can follow a pathway to the equally beautiful neighbouring beach at Cala Mondragó, which is 300 to 400 metres away.

Despite being smaller, Cala Mondragó is busier than S’Amarador, and many people prefer to enjoy the peace and quiet of the S’Amarador beach. Aside from the small beach bar, this virgin beach is unspoilt – mainly due to its location in the Mondragó Natural Park. The S’Amarador beach is enclosed by pine forests with a gorgeous view.

Location

Although the S’Amarador beach is not in one of the major Mallorca resorts, it is near the Cala D’or resort location in Santanyi. The beach is on the southeastern coast and is a one-hour drive from Palma.

You can drive to the S’Amarador beach and once you reach it, you have a 15 minute walk from the car park to the beach.

Restaurants, Bars & Facilities

There are porta-potties and showers, but they are not in great condition. However, the small beach bar sells cool drinks to help you cool off after enjoying a hot day in the sun. The S’Amarador beach is one of the only beaches that offer this, so it’s actually preferred by the people. You can also rent umbrellas if you want some shade.

It is possible to rent sun loungers to take a load off and relax. There are two to three restaurants on the neighbouring sandy beach of Cala Mondragó, and the walk over there is a journey of its own!

Lifeguard & Water Sports

The surrounding bays have yachts, which are popular among visitors, and tourists love swimming in the shallow water and going canoeing. There are also walking trails in the area among the tall pine trees, so take a hike to appreciate the true beauty of S’Amarador.

There is even a lifeguard on duty, so you and your family can play in the water safely. If you go to the other side of S’Amarador, it is a rocky path where you can explore the coastline, find amazing rock formations and fun ledges to dive into the sea.

Is S’Amarador Family-Friendly?

Yes, its great location makes S’Amarador beach perfect for families! Since the water is only 50 metres deep with gentle waves, it is safe for children to swim and play in the water. There is always a lifeguard around, and there are basic facilities, such as toilets. The S’Amarador sandy beach is perfect for playing and relaxing.

If you carefully examine the seaweed, you might see some turtles – very exciting for young children in particular. Apart from relaxing on the beautiful beach, your family can go for a hike on the trail around the different Majorcan towns.

Where to Park at S’Amarador

There is a large parking lot situated 15 minutes away from the S’Amarador beach. It looks like a paid parking lot; however, many visitors say they do not pay. The car park is secure, with enough spots for everyone!

Nearby Beaches, Hotels & Resorts

The closest hotels and resorts are in Cala Mondragó. If you want to stay here, you should consider the Hotel Playa Mondragó, which is close to the beach. You can also stay in the rural village of Santanyi, which has boutiques and a weekly market. You can walk over to the other beaches, such as Mondragó beach, which is east of S’Amarador.
